Call for Papers

Title:
Transferable skills, employability skills or Vocational Action Competence – policies, models and practical implementation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and vocational teacher education (VTE)

Pre- and in-service TVET needs to simultaneously satisfy individual expectations and labour market needs. Especially in the Asia-Pacific where many countries are experiencing rapid economic development, TVET systems are faced with increasingly complex challenges.
National labour markets require skilled workers that can compete regionally and globally. For TVET to meet these growing demands, the traditional chalk-and-talk teaching method needs to be transformed into an approach that develops workers holistically. In fact, TVET needs to give graduates the ability to learn throughout their life and play a constructive role in their families, workplaces and societies.
In that respect, several concepts and models have been developed, such as transferable skills (EFA/UNESCO), employability skills (Australia) or Vocational Action Competence (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Despite some differences, all three concepts/models aim at improving teaching and learning in TVET through the development of transferable skills.

To explore this new skill dimension, we would like to invite authors to contribute to the 3rd issue of TVET@Asia (www.tvet-online.asia).
We are interested to learn of national examples which answer the following guiding questions:
1) What is the government‘s policy with respect to transferable skills in TVET?
2) What is the model/concept in use?
3) What is the impact of the model/concept on practical TVET with respect to curricula, teacher training and development of vocational schools?
4) What are the implications for VTE?
5) What are the key findings and the recommendations for future TVET development and research?

Please note that we can only publish papers that fulfil set requirements. Issue 1 and Issue 2 (https://www.tvet-online.asia/issue) may serve as reference.

Authors:
1. Participants from the UNESCO-RCP workshop on transferable skills which took place on 26th October 2013 in Shanghai, China
2. Additional interested authors (preferably from the Asia-Pacific region).

Timeline:
1. Please send an abstract of no more than one page, a short CV/profile (half page) and a list of publications to issue3@tvet-online.asia by 15th February 2014;

2. Submit a draft by 31th March 2014;
3. Send the finalised paper by 30th April 2014
4. Tentative publication date: end of May/beginning of June 2014
